Our mission is to support researchers and communities across North Carolina in working together to reduce the burden of cancer.
We provide consultation, training and technical assistance to organizations that would like to apply proven effective strategies for preventing cancer, promoting early detection and leading people to high quality treatment and care.
We promote and conduct cancer prevention and control research that
- extends the knowledge base, especially in areas identified in the Guide to Community Preventive Services
- addresses critical gaps in the evidence base by developing or adapting research-tested programs
- leads to an increased number of organizations and communities successfully adopting effective programs that are proven to have the greatest potential for reducing cancer incidence and mortality, and for improving the quality of life for people living with cancer
Priority cancers for the 4CNC currently are - colorectal, breast and cervical cancer. Our team is also working to decrease tobacco use and improve indoor air quality.
